Branch Rickey signs Jackie Robinson to theMontreal Royals. The rest is history.
Bold is mine. It previously said “Dodgers”. The Royals were the Dodgers AAA farm team at the time, so it’s semantics, but Robinson had a new contract purchased at the time he was called up to the Dodgers, if I’m not mistaken.
“I do not care if the guy is yellow or black, or if he has stripes like a fuckin’ zebra. I’m the manager of this team, and I say he plays” -Leo “The Lip” Durocher, manager of the Dodgers when Robinson broke the color barrier in April 1947.
The single greatest man to play the game.
